Dr Ankita Kansal on the lasting legacy of a pandemic

The novel coronavirus travelling with human hosts all around the world has led to panic and anxiety. This stems from two facts mainly — first, the ease of spread and long incubation period; second, the absence of a cure or vaccine as yet. This book traces the journey of the coronavirus from its origin in China and its spread to other parts of the world. It also delves into how the nationwide lockdown triggered by the pandemic has impacted various aspects of our lives — be it economy, mental health or well being. She begins with how the New Year eve brought news of the virus, with patients showing pneumonia-like symptoms, afflicting the Chinese. Its impact on world economy and our daily lives and well being was yet to be known. Still unknown is the legacy this pandemic will leave. Dr Kansal throws at the readers some food for thought.
