The Department of Telecommunications was being harmed by transferring international voice calls to Indian numbers by bypassing legitimate telephone call gateways through illegal telecom setup. On the basis of inputs received from the Department of Telecommunications, a vicious policeman has been arrested by the Kotwali Sector 20 police after conducting raids in Sector 2 and Sector 8.
Accused Sumit Kumar is originally from Banda and lives here in Laxminagar, Delhi. The police have seized 2 laptops, 2 SIP servers, 2 other servers, 4 CPUs, 4 routers, 6 switches, 1 SIP trunk device, 12 VOIP dialers, 1 landline phone, 2 Spectra Net devices, among others.
According to the Kotwali Sector 20 Police, the police got input from the Department of Telecommunication that in two separate buildings of Sector 2 and Sector 8, a person named Sumit Kumar made an illegal telecom setup through his system bypassing the legitimate telephone call gateway through Indian telephone. Transfers of international voice calls to numbers are being illegally profited. This kind of fraud by the accused is causing huge financial loss to the Department of Telecommunications and the Government of India. Illegal telecom setup used by the accused may also threaten national security. On information, the Department of Telecommunications and the Kotwali Sector 20 police raided both the locations. During this, after the interaction and investigation of the people present there, the accused Sumit Kumar has been arrested by the police and recovered the items used in this fraud. DCP Sankalp Sharma says that the investigation so far has revealed that the accused illegally prepared this setup about six months ago. It had to be shut down during lockdown. Accused had started again for the last few months. In the investigation so far, only one accused has got a role in the fraud and has been arrested. It was running fake in different ways from other call centers. The DCP said that the matter was under serious investigation. Further action will be taken on the basis of investigation.
