Amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the 17th edition of Laissez-Faire took place on July 31, 2020. However, this year, the fair was held online. Laissez-Faire is an annual inter-school competition which is organised by the social science department of Vasant Valley School.
The fair is organised for the students of classes 11 and 12. This year, over 200 students participated from 22 different schools, and the winners were Shri Ram School, Moulsari, and Vasant Valley School.
The focus of this year’s fair was to provide students a platform to integrate the knowledge they have acquired from various domains of social science and to apply them to the current scenario using creative and technical skills.
Highlights of Laissez-Faire 2020
The 17th edition of Laissez-Faire included 4 major events:
The quiz: it included questions both in the forms of video and audio. The questions consisted of current affairs and elements of different subject domains.
Eco Online: Each team had around 3 to 4 members and was given the option to choose a topic and make a PPT or a short movie in the given period. The topics given to the teams were:
1. The Covid pandemic should change the way India sees its migrant labour.
2. Safeguarding lives and livelihoods the imperative of today.
3. The old order changeth yielding place to the new through the pandemic, what sectors of the economy/jobs will pull through?
Psynergy: This event included concepts from psychology and sociology. Students had to apply the principles of these subject domains into real-life situations.
Biz Bash: This included concepts from business studies and the corporate world. Students from two different worlds were clubbed together to form a team and each team was assigned a marketing case for which they had to apply the 4 P’s framework.
