West Bengal MLA Death

A day after BJP, a delegation of Trinamool Congress leaders, comprising Derek O’Brien, met President Ram Nath Kovind on Wednesday and handed over a letter to him over the death of BJP MLA Debendra Nath Ray, who was found dead outside a shop near his home in Bindal Village of West Bengal’s North Dinajpur district.

The BJP MLA was found hanging outside a shop near his home on Monday. His family and the BJP alleged that he didn’t kill himself but murdered and demanded an independent inquiry by the CBI.

On Tuesday, a delegation of BJP leaders had also met President Kovind seeking a CBI probe into the death of party’s West Bengal MLA and dismissal of the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress government in West Bengal. The BJP delegation comprised Kailash Vijayvargiya, Arvind Menon, Babul Supriyo, Swapan Dasgupta and Raju Bista.

The reportedly told the President that the “murder” of Hemtabad MLA was was being covered as “suicide” by the Trinamool government and that the such a government has no right to remain in power.

“Killing is being covered up as suicide. We demanded Pres for CBI probe as we don’t trust any agency of Bengal govt. We told that such a govt has no right to be in power,” news agency ANI quoted BJP’s Kailash Vijayvargiya as saying.

Calling the alleged killing of Ray “extremely shocking and deplorable”, BJP chief JP Nadda said that the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC government has failed to maintain the law and order in the state.

“The suspected heinous killing of Debendra Nath Ray, BJP MLA from Hemtabad in West Bengal, is extremely shocking and deplorable. This speaks of the Gunda Raj and failure of law and order in the Mamta government,” he tweeted.
